Empowering through Education - Scholarships for Future Leaders
We work directly with Rodrigo Ilaquiche, the school superintendent in Guangaje, and the CEO of the Ecuadorian non-profit organization Fundacion Yanapak Jumandy. Sr. Ilaquiche is well-respected by the community, as he grew up there, and his parents still reside there. He and two other community members review the scholarship applications and make the selection of 4 students each year. He then meets monthly with each student to assess their progress, provide accountability and encouragement and disperse the money.

The laptops are also provided by FFGE, essentials during this time of pandemic-induced virtual learning. We celebrate these young scholars and their families as they reach for their goals for themselves and their community, Guangaje, Ecuador.

Virtual Learning
The Covid-19 pandemic revealed the need for these college students to each have a laptop computer for distance learning. We provided 3 computers in 2020, 4 new laptops in 2021 and continue to provide each new student a laptop.

Our COVID-19 Response
Many of the fathers in Guangaje work as laborers in the cities of Latacunga and Quito, while the women and children tend to the crops and sheep. When Covid-19 hit Ecuador, most of the men lost their jobs. The families are quarantined in their homes and communities with scarce resources. We joined with Amawtay Inti Nan and the Ecuadorian government to provide emergency food, health kits and personal protective equipment. We also provided 2 months of phone cards to 160 families so that the primary and secondary students could receive their school assignments on WhatsApp. The three children in this video are expressing their appreciation to those of us who provided this relief.

Community Partnerships
Para El Futuro De Guangaje leadership works closely with Ecuadorian leaders who are part of the Guangaje community or have had a long-standing relationship with them. We are cognizant that we, from the US side, do not know what is best for this community and its individuals. We hope to provide the resources that the community recognizes as necessary for empowering their youth and consequently their community. We are truly thankful for the partnerships that we have with Amawtay Inti Nan, Universidad de San Francisco en Quito and Universidad Central en Quito.
About Fundacion Yanapak Jumandy
It is a Guangaje-based, Ecuadoran non-profit, youth-led, and directed by Rodrigo Ilaquiche, a native of Guangaje and the Superintendent of the School system of Guangaje. Its mission is to provide the youth of Guangaje enrichment opportunities in education, sports, micro-industries, music and other activities. so that they can reach their optimal potential. We work with Fundacion Yanapak Jumandy to provide educational scholarships and support to the youth of Guangaje.
